Join us on Oxley Creek Common for an enthralling and educational guided walk with Professor Hugh Possingham, renowned ecologist, conservation scientist and passionate birder.

With more than 200 bird species recorded across the Common’s wetlands, lagoons and forest trails, Oxley Common is one of Brisbane’s best birding hotspots. Depending upon the weather, Hugh estimates that we should see and hear about 65 species of birds on the walk.
The morning walk will cover around 4-5km and take approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, however people can head back any time.
The route is flat & and easy walk, however can be muddy after rain.

Professor Possingham is one of Australia’s most distinguished scientists and conservationists. He is currently President of Bird Life Australia and until recently was Queensland's Chief Scientist. Hugh has held a vast number of academic, public sector, and not-for-profit positions and is a global expert in conservation science and ecology.

MEET AT 7:00am SHARP for a 7:15am start.
Numbers will be limited and registrations are essential.
When: Sunday 2 August 2026, 7:00am -10:00am (plus morning tea if you stay)
Where: Meet at the Red Shed, Oxley Creek Common
What: Bring water, a hat, sunscreen, mozzie repellent, binoculars and cameras if you have them
Please bring a flask of tea or coffee and a snack and join us after the walk for morning tea.
