Cleveland, QLD: Mangrove Walk- How can mangroves help mitigate climate change?

Mangroves
Why are Mangroves so important in helping to mitigate climate change?
It has been found that mangrove trees can store more carbon than tropical forest trees. This means that if you want to slow carbon emissions one of the first places we should look would be in the mangroves.

To find out more join us for a guided walk around the mangroves at the beautiful GJ Walter Park in Cleveland with the amazing Fernanda Vivanco. Fernanda is a research fellow studying Wetland Ecology at the Australian Rivers Institute, Griffith University.

Fernanda will talk to us about the importance of mangroves and will do some measurements of the trees and take a few soil samples to determine the carbon emissions and nitrogen pollution that would be caused by their destruction.

Mangroves will be destroyed if the Toondah Harbour 3600 units in the bay project goes ahead!
Join us afterwards for brunch and a catch up.

When: This Sunday 15 March 2020, 8.30am to 10.30am
Where: GJ Walter Park, 72 Shore St E, Cleveland QLD 4163 (meet at the playground)
Contact: Tania 0419 721 549
Bring: Something to share for brunch (plates/cutlery/serviettes are provided) long sleeve shirt, long pants, enclosed old shoes that will get muddy (or diving booties), mosquito repellent.
See you there!
