Seven Hills Bushland Reserve
Latina Avenue, Seven Hills, QLD 4170, Australia

Join members of the ACF Brisbane South & Logan community group for our monthly walk as we explore another of our local forests.

When: Sunday, December 5, 2021, 8am to 11am

Where: Seven Hills Bushland Reserve, Latina Avenue, Seven Hills

We have some special guests for this event

Associate Professor Rod Fensham, The Ecology Centre, School of Biological Sciences, UQ: Rod will lead our walk into the bushland reserve and help us identify the different types of eucalypts to be found there. He researches the ecological issues required to manage and conserve the natural environment of the north-eastern quarter of the Australian ecosystems from tropical rainforest to arid shrublands. He is mostly working on threatened plant species but retains an active interest in the ecology and hydrogeology of springs, drought-induced tree dieback and habitat restoration. Rod has just published a book on identifying eucalypts and will bring copies for $20 if we want to purchase a copy.

Eris Jolly: Eris is a long-time local resident, activist, bushcare and creek restorer and leader, historian, educator and campaigner for local preservation of both the natural and built environment. Eris is known to almost everyone within a 20km radius of Seven Hills. She has published a booklet of local history.

Michael Ryan: Michael is a keen member of Perrin Creek Seven Hills Bushland Rehabilitation Group and the Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee. He has researched the history of European settlement in the area.

Kate Fink: Kate is a Habitat Brisbane officer, Program Planning and Integration with the Brisbane City Council.

The first section of the walk will be along Perrin Creek where we will see some of the wonderful work the rehabilitation group has been doing. We will then break for morning tea and discussion. After that, those who want some more exercise can walk the 1km loop to the top of the reserve to check out more eucalypt species and hear a little local history.  We will finish no later than 11am. Kids are welcome

Important information

We will meet at the track entrance off Latina Avenue, Seven Hills

Bring some sturdy shoes. Tracks will be muddy after recent rain

Wear a hat and apply sunscreen. And don’t forget a water bottle

You might like to bring a folding chair so you can rest your legs after walking

See you on Sunday
