Are you passionate about the platypus?
This September, join us to head down to a quiet spot on the riverbank, try to spot a platypus and record what we see.
It’s part of the citizen science Platy Project from ACF and the University of New South Wales that aims to fill the gaps in our understanding of where this elusive animal lives, so that we can better protect it.
The best times to see platypus are dawn and dusk so we'll meet at 4pm, with time to gather and learn about the area including local Indigenous history. Then we'll spread out to watch the creek around the suspension bridge until sunset around 6pm.
We've chosen this location upriver from Darebin as an area that has had recent sightings. Sadly, many of our local waterways are so degraded that sightings closer to home are very unlikely.
If you can, get out creekside with family and friends during the month of September and record what you don't see as well - all data helps the fill in the gaps of our knowledge about platypus in the wild.
