August 2024 Bushwalk with Central Victoria ACF

Friday 30 August 2024
10:00am - 12:00pm
Browns Reef
Landry Road, Lockwood, VIC 3551, Australia
Get directions

Join us for an interesting loop walk through Box-Ironbark woodland off Lockwood Road, in the Bendigo Regional Forest, and 5 minutes’ drive from the Kangaroo Flat shopping strip.  The spring flowers are coming out with Bendigo wax, yellow grevillea, egg and bacon, some early orchids, hardenbergia and spreading wattle seen trackside in parts of the walk. For the history buffs, we’ll be inspecting the gash where the first rich line of quartz was found in the Bendigo goldfields, and the Specimen Hill water-race originating from Malmsbury Reservoir. We’ll also unfortunately see the result of quite severe burn offs as we cover parts of the walk.

The meeting point at 10.00 am at the start of Landry Rd, 4.6 km from the traffic lights at Aldi, Kangaroo Flat.

We will walk about 4.9 km and expect to finish the walk in 2 hours.  The walk consists of mainly gently undulating tracks but there are a few eroded sections and some uneven ground.

Please wear sturdy supportive footwear and suitable clothing, bring your walking poles, drinking water and snacks, and protect yourself from the elements.

Please RSVP here so we know who is coming.  You will get an email confirming your booking, with details of the specific starting point.  (Email’s Subject: RSVP Confirmation ACF Central Victoria August 2024 Browns Reef Bushwalk from ACF [email protected])

Friends, family and community members are welcome, but each person needs to register individually.

If you’re needing a lift from Bendigo, please phone Philippe on 0400198375.

If this is your first time to walk with us, please text Philippe on 0400198375 with your name and mobile number.  Then, if you're running late, you can be called.
