We are visiting a passionate Central Victorian couple who have bred in captivity the endangered Bush Stone Curlews, working with Mt Rothwell Biodiversity Interpretation Centre from where the birds eventually are released to Victorian sites that the species previously had inhabited.
While the breeding program has halted, there are 4 skittish birds remaining that are too old to be released. We will need to be very quiet. If we don't catch a glimpse of the birds, there are cameras. The enclosures are now being used to shelter other animals. The carers will be explaining what they have done in the past and currently. Check this video of a recent release event at Phillip Island. This included some Upper Spring Creek birds.
