Community Forum: Stop the Flaws with Nature Laws

The laws that are meant to protect Australian nature are failing. The current Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act is barely monitored, rarely enforced and full of loopholes allowing businesses to destroy nature.

Right now, the Albanese Government is reforming our national nature laws – join us on Thursday 23 May to get the inside scoop into this critical law reform, and to show your local MP that you support strong action to protect nature.
Hear from Brendan Sydes (ACF’s National Biodiversity Policy Adviser), Sam Szoke-Burke (The Wilderness Society's Biodiversity Policy and Campaign Manager), and federal Members of Parliament (MPs) Josh Burns (Macnamara) and Zoe Daniel (Goldstein). Jane Gardner (ACF Engagement Director) will MC the event.

This event is a collaboration between Australian Conservation Foundation, The Wilderness Society, Glen Eira Emergency Climate Action group, and Bayside Climate Crisis Action group. Together we strive for stronger protections for our unique wildlife and our beautiful beaches and bush.

Since Australia’s national environment protection law took effect 20 years ago, more than seven million hectares of threatened species habitat has been destroyed.

Extreme weather – fuelled by climate wrecking coal and gas companies like Woodside and Santos – threatens everything we love and depend on.

The Albanese Government must create strong new nature laws that stop the destruction and protect the forests, wetlands, reefs, mammals, birds and insects we still have and address the urgent threat to nature from climate change and extreme weather disasters fuelled by burning gas and coal.

Right now, your local MP needs to see a strong show of community support for strong nature laws. Will you join us?
