Join us as we bring the platy-project to Centennial Park!

The Australian Conservation Foundation are hosting a nationwide citizen-science event in the month of September, and the ACF East Sydney group are looking forward to bringing it to Centennial Park. ACF, in partnership with scientists at UNSW, are asking local groups and individuals to get out to their local waterways and try to spot platypus. This data will then give scientists a greater understanding of current platypus populations, and will contribute to broadening our knowledge of one Australia's most-loved native animals.

While the platypus can be very elusive in East Sydney, all data is useful, whether a platypus is sighted or not, and as such we are using this opportunity to explore Centennial Park's waterways and identify other local flora and fauna using the iNaturalist citizen-science app.

Afterwards, we will be hosting a picnic so nature lovers of East Sydney can come together and mingle. It has been a little while since we have been able to host a picnic like this and we look forward to seeing a combination of fresh and familiar faces. All are welcome, there is no required level of experience or involvement in the group. We actively encourage new environmentalists and families at this event, it should be a lot of fun and there will be plenty to occupy the kids with the citizen-science project and the open space of Centennial Park (it could be a good idea to bring the bikes and scooters).

We will be meeting at the Spruce Goose Diner in Centennial Park at 11:00AM. We cannot wait to see you!
