Film Club: Watch & Talk About Floodlands
Lismore is Australia’s flood capital, priding itself on historic resilience. But as the climate crisis rises tides, uncomfortable truths boil to the surface, leaving residents wondering if their precarious way of life can survive a changing world.
This poignant documentary follows the lives of several Lismore (NSW) residents as they struggle to rebuild following a series of devastating climate disasters. As government buyback schemes threaten to dismantle the neighbourhood, the residents must decide if their connection to the land is strong enough to withstand the inevitable next tide.
Director Jordan Giusti filmed this project over three years to capture the authentic resilience of the Lismore community. The film won the Sustainable Future Award at the 2025 Sydney Film Festival, and has been hailed as an essential, heartbreaking and human look at the frontlines of the global climate crisis.
