This Friday, our ACF Community Bayside group & supported by our friends in the Toondah Alliance, are holding a quick, fun-packed Crosswalk Musical Action in King George Square to save Toondah – and we need you!
ACF Community Bayside and the Toondah Alliance have worked tirelessly for over 5 years to save our iconic Toondah Harbour wetlands from Walker Corp’s bulldozers.
The campaign is achieving serious political cut-through, with Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek having just made her first visit. But we must keep raising our voices to overcome Walker Corp’s nature-wrecking plan for Toondah.
Please join us this Friday at King George Square for a fun-filled action to keep the pressure on Minister Plibersek to #SaveToondah!
What: Fun Flash Action for Toondah!
When: Friday 22 March, from 11.30am-1pm. Join us for as little or for as long as you can stay: even 30 minutes will make a difference
Where: King George Square, 87C Roma St, Brisbane City
So what is this action, you say? There will be fun crosswalk actions with beautiful Save Toondah signs and a little choreographed dance, set to music by local jazz musician & Toondah activist Vicki.
For those of you who may not be keen on the dance action, have no worries! There will be other activities to take part in too, including getting people in the city to take a social media action for Toondah. We promise you a safe, legal action with an inclusive and friendly group of people. Plus it will be great fun, and a wonderful way to get to know the ACF Bayside Toondah legends. What could be better?
The Plan of Action:
We will meet at King George Square – you won’t miss us with all our Save Toondah signs. We’ll begin by going over the choreography for the dance component of the action, as well as the other actions you can take, before we begin. Do not fret: the choreography is very simple but eye-catching at the same time.
This small action will go a long way in raising public awareness and visibility to Save Toondah!
Everyday people speaking up and taking action across Queensland to save Toondah from Walker Corp’s bulldozers brought Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek to the table 10 days ago.
By you joining us this Friday, we can keep making an impact on the Minister!

By coming together for actions like this, we can stop Walker Corp from dredging and bulldozing protected wetlands for luxury apartments, shopping strips and a marina. Let’s advocate for a different vision for this coastal pocket of Brisbane: dugongs, koalas and shorebirds living and thriving, and people enjoying a great quality of life surrounded by nature.
With the Minister just weeks away from approving or rejecting this nature-wrecking project, we need to come together to raise our voices for Toondah in creative ways like this. This action could be the last opportunity we have before the minister makes her decision.
So join us this Friday, to continue giving Toondah’s wetlands a voice and national spotlight.
ACF Community Bayside with the Toondah Alliance has staged thousands-strong rallies, organised festivals and film screenings, worked with media and lobbied local and national decision-makers. So you can trust this action will be fun and impactful!

Toondah wetlands’ fate is in the Environment Minister’s hands, and nature Australia-wide faces an uncertain future. By taking actions like at this event, we will be sending a strong message to both save Toondah and show the Albanese Government that they must deliver new national nature laws that stop Australia’s extinction crisis. We need clear and upfront protection of forests, rivers and coasts home to threatened animals, so that communities don’t have to spend years fighting unacceptable and destructive projects like this one.
