Federal Government Initiated Petition and Second Sunday Monthly Meeting

Sunday 13 October 2019
02:30pm - 04:30pm
Oatley RSL
23 Letitia St, Oatley, NSW 2223, Australia
Get directions

IMPORTANT Please sign the Federal Government Initiated Petition https://www.aph.gov.au/petition_sign?id=EN1041 called "Petition EN1041 - Declare a Climate Emergency".  You will need to (1) go to https://www.aph.gov.au/petition_sign?id=EN1041, (2) sign and (3) go to your email in-box, find an email automatically sent to you, and verify your signature by clicking on the link in the email.

Also recall that next Sunday 13 October is the second Sunday of the month and is the regular meeting time of Southern Sydney group of Citizens' Climate Lobby.  As usual we meet at at 2:30 pm at Oatley RSL in the Board Room up the stairs or lift and around the corner in the corridor.  The address of Oatley RSL, 23 Letitia St, is a 5-minute walk from Oatley Railway Station.

The meeting starts at 2:30 pm, but all are welcome to join us for a light meal from 1:15 pm on the ground floor - look for the Citizens' Climate Lobby T-shirts.

At the beginning of the meeting, after welcome and introductions, long-time members explain to newcomers how Citizens' Climate Lobby advocacy for action on climate change complements protest demonstrations.

We entertain, educate and support each other in raising public awareness about the seriousness and urgency of acting to find solutions to the climate disruption problem by

- proposing a brilliant method of pricing fossil fuels

- helping each other with writing letters to newspapers and to community leaders

- form well-thought-out strategies for meetings with community leaders, including politicians, especially to encourage consensus on the urgent need to stem carbon emissions.

You will have opportunities to have your say.

We need more hands on deck because the task is enormous.  Let's avoid the global hot house!  1.5 degrees will be very difficult, 2 degrees will be a disaster, present Paris commitments or 3 degrees is a catastrophe, business as usual could give us 12 degrees of warming if we lose sub-tropical cloud cover.

Our meetings are interesting and enjoyable, even though the underlying motive is serious and the involvement of people at the "grass-roots" level has never been more important.

No pressure.  Just come for a short amusing video if you don't feel in a political mood.

Hoping to see you there!

Co-convenor, South Sydney Chapter, Citizens Climate Lobby Australia
