Join Climate Action Darwin for our second Calling Party. We will be dialling the phones to hear peoples views and chat with them about climate change!

This event is part of a national campaign that the Australian Conservation Foundation has been running for the last six months. Hundreds of volunteers have been working to raise awareness about climate damage and ensure that it is is a top priority going into the 2019 Federal election.

We will be dialling voters in a key Queensland electorate. ACF has identified this electorate as places where even a small number of meaningful conversations can have a significant impact on the election outcome.

Conversations are the most powerful way to connect with others on issues we care about. You may initially feel nervous about the prospect of talking to people about climate damage. Don’t worry,  this is a great opportunity to practise and gain confidence. The ACF provides us with a calling script that will help guide the conversation. Within the script there is an opportunity to also share your own local experience. Before the Calling Party have a think about the climate damage you are already witnessing in the Top End and what this means for you. We have a unique experience living in the tropics and it is important that our voices also get heard in the national conversation.

All you need to bring on the day is your fully-charged mobile phone and headphones (if you have them). All phone calls are free for participants. We will be using the ACF's dialler and their phone lists.

After you RSVP, you’ll receive an email with the resources to print beforehand. Then, on Thursday afternoon, 5:30pm (Darwin time) join us at the ECNT office. We will:

  • meet all the other volunteers
  • if you came to the first Calling Party you can get on the phones immediately
  • if this is your first one we will brief you on the script, practice in pairs and show you how to dial in to the calling campaign on your phone
  • finish up with a debrief.

It doesn't matter whether you've never done this before or if you're very experienced. This action is for anyone who cares about making the next election a vote on climate damage. Come along and have a great time with like-minded people while you change the world, one conversation at a time.

This is an independently run event hosted by a member of your community. When you RSVP, ACF will pass on your contact details to the host for the purpose of running the event.
