Care to try out some citizen science?
Malvern ACF are joining the Waterwatch Program to assess the quality of water in Back Creek and Gardiners Creek where they join at Nettleton Park.
Come along to see how it's done.
Here's what we plan to do:
- assess the surroundings of the collection area
- measure temperature, depth, turbidity, pH, conductivity/salinity, nitrogen, and phosphorus concentrations.
- We are not yet able to measure oxygen concentrations.
We intend to make this a monthly occurrence, to follow on from Back2Nettleton's revegetation activity which begins at 9:30am, and which you are also welcome to attend (NB: it is a separate activity)
The event is weather dependent. It may be postponed or cancelled if high water levels make sample collection difficult or risky.
Note: this is the first event of this kind we have run, and and we are not yet in a position to perform the same range of activities that other waterwatch groups offer. In particular, we are not yet doing any macro-invertebrate surveys, although we certainly hope to do so in due course.
