StopAdani CommBank Mobilisation Sydney!

You are invited to join a #STOPADANI Event in Sydney. Coal is the biggest single cause of air pollution in Australia, contributing to 3000 deaths every year. It's also the greatest contributor to global warming, which is damaging our planet at an alarming rate, including our infamous Great Barrier Reef. The reef has just undergone its second major bleaching event in 2 years. The proposed mine is a disaster from both an environmental and economic standpoint, yet its being backed by both federal and QLD state Governments under the guise of 'jobs' - even though Adani's own spokespeople have shown this to be an exaggeration. The Adani mine will be a major blow to our climate obligations, pushing out tens of millions of tonnes of carbon pollution every year and putting out planet beyond the brink of unstoppable climate change. We must move to renewable energy as soon as possible.

Last week, we won. Community pressure pushed Westpac to rule out funding for Adani. The uproar from coal-loving politicians and Adani is testament to what a huge win this was.

This week, CommBank has returned. New evidence leaked to the media has confirmed CommBank is Adani’s transactional banker. The evidence shows that in March - while people were turning out in their thousands at the #StopAdani Roadshow - the Commonwealth Bank was helping Adani lay down a $1.6 million deposit for the water license they need for their dirty coal mine.
