The Australian Conservation Foundation Brisbane South & Logan invite you to join us for our July ACF Bush Ramble with Dr Richard Noske.
This month, Richard will take us along the Nudgee Beach Boardwalk.
As always, numbers are limited for the best experience.
BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL VIA HUMANITIX
The walk is a scenic 1.5 km loop that winds through protected mangrove wetlands in Brisbane. This will be an easy 45 minute stroll around the boardwalk.
Nudgee Beach Boardwalk is the best place to see mangroves in the Brisbane region. It supports five species of mangroves, each with its own adaptations to living in an environment that is regularly inundated by saltwater. In addition to providing habitat for numerous species of crabs and a nursery for fish and crustaceans, mangroves are home to several bird species that only occur in this habitat, such as the Mangrove (or Torresian) Kingfisher, Mangrove Honeyeater and Mangrove Gerygone. Almost 200 bird species have been recorded here, including Osprey, Brahminy Kite and White-breasted Sea-eagle.
Dr Richard Noske has written and co-written over 150 peer-reviewed journal papers, 14 book chapters, three books, and numerous other articles. His major research interests are Australian and Indonesian bird ecology and flowering phenology of trees. RIchard was Senior Lecturer in biology at Charles Darwin University in Darwin, Australia, for 26 years before retiring to Brisbane, Queensland. He was President of Birds Queensland for 4 years and is an Adjunct Assoc Professor at University of Queensland.

Right after the last houses on O’Quinn St, there is a fork in the road. The right side of the fork continues to the beach and parkland, whereas the left side leads to a carpark in less than 100 metres (but continues to a canoe ramp). This is where we will start our walk at 08:10. If the carpark here is full, take the other side of the fork towards the beach where there are additional car parking spaces.
