Platy Project dusk walk

At Dights Falls, the Merri Creek finishes its 60km journey from the Great Dividing Range to meet the birrarung / Yarra River. For thousands of generations this confluence of the waterways has been a place for local people to gather and share learning. Many animals and birds can still be found in the area, but platypus can be harder to find.

Join ACF NXNW and Merri Paddle for a fascinating presentation on the platypus and a walk and seek activity along the Merri and Birrarung. You can help assess the area for platypus habitat to give ecologists a clearer picture of where platypus currently are (or are not).

Bookings are essential and are made on the Merri Paddle website HERE.

This event is family friendly and would suit children aged six and above. Please dress for the weather, and wear sturdy shoes and warm clothes. Torches and binoculars are also recommended (we'll have some to borrow).

The platy-project is a citizen-science project which runs each spring, organised by the Australian Conservation Foundation and the University of New South Wales.

Passionate about the platypus but can't make this date? Join us at Merri Creek on Sat 26 October instead!

A collaborative event between Australian Conservation Foundation NXNW and the Merri Platypus Paddle (a subgroup of the Friends of Merri Creek)
This event is part of the 2024 Birrarung Riverfest presented by the Yarra Riverkeeper Association. Celebrate our river at one of 30+ events being hosted over three weeks from 1- 22 September.
