We are putting out a call to all love bugs for nature! ACF Community Macnamara is holding a Clean Up Australia Day event at the beautiful Westgate Park at Port Melbourne.

Westgate Park, on the eastern side of Westgate Bridge, is a hidden gem of inner Melbourne. Revegetated and maintained over decades by volunteers, the park is an inspiring example of how a healthy ecosystem can be recreated within an urban environment.

It’s a green oasis in the heart of industrial Melbourne, part of the traditional lands of the Bunurong People and a hot spot for waterbirds like stilts, ducks, grebes, coots, pelicans, swans and moorhens.

It is also unfortunately a hot spot for litter!

At our clean up event, we will not only be collecting rubbish but also documenting what we find and uploading this information to the Tangaroa Blue Foundation, Australian Marine Debris Initiative (ADMI) data base. This data can help identify where much of the waste which is polluting Australian waterways and beaches is coming from and help us to stop it at the source!

All are welcome! If you have your own gloves, please bring them, along with a refillable water bottle, hat, sunscreen, closed shoes and a snack.
