Rare Western Victoria volcanic plains grasslands tour

Join us for a rare glimpse to see what western Victorian grasslands looked like before colonisation ! Western Victorian volcanic grasslands is some of the most threatened vegetation is due to grazing by sheep, loss of fire/burning regime. Now population growth and urban development threatens what remains.  Join us as we visit land which has been managed by a private landholder as part of a nature covenant program and learn more about the rare plants which are now managed with regular burns to encourage the native grasslands to re-establish.

We will car-pool from Hamlyn Heights to the farm and meet the retired farmer (Max Kerr) on property. The farm/grassland is accessible by 2 wheel drive.

Itinerary:

10am: Meet at 17 Sheridan St, Hamlyn Heights, car-pool (please advise Sal if you can provide space by return email [email protected])

11am-12.30pm: Arrive at property on Urches Rd, (look for sign out on road side to "Forget me not") , Meet farmer and taken to grasslands site. 

12.30-1pm: BYO lunch, Tea/coffee available at shed

1pm-2pm: Optional - Tour of farm Social/Cultural museum  "Forget me not" then drive back to Geelong OR return to Geelong 

Price- $10 for grasslands, $10 for tour of the shed. Cash only, pay the farmer on arrival.

BYO Lunch and snacks and water and jackets/warm clothing. Tea/coffee will be available at lunch. Toilet facility is available at the
