The climate crisis is here and it’s hitting hard. From the horror of Nepal, to Europe’s sweltering summer and a monster El Nino about to descend on Australia.
And the cause is clear: burning coal, oil and gas is heating up our planet at an alarming rate. Planetary systems are starting to collapse.
Yet, fossil fuel corporations continue to expand their operations – and governments – including our own at home in Australia, are letting them.
This is your invitation to join ACF CEO Adam Bandt and inspirational speakers on November 7 as we come together in solidarity and send a message to Canberra that this is not the future we stand for. We will gather at Federation Square in Melbourne at 11am to hold our government to account and call for no new coal and gas.
It’s easy to feel powerless, but this is precisely the time to act. To connect with others who care. To show up for our planet and our kids’ futures. If we don’t, we will lose so much more.
Will you join us?
Next month, our Prime Minister and Minister of Climate Change will travel to Turkiye and stand up on the global stage at COP31 – as co-hosts of the COP31 conference.
There, they will claim that Australia is a leader on climate action, when nothing could be further from the truth.
Federal Labor has greenlit 37 fossil fuel projects since coming into office since May 2022. And there are two major climate-wrecking projects right on the precipice.
One, in Western Australia, is Woodside’s massive Browse gas drilling project, which endangers beautiful pristine Scott Reef and all the creatures who call it home (including the pygmy whale and green sea turtle).
In the Northern Territory Santos and others want to frack the Beetaloo a nationally significant treasure and to turn it into an export-scale fracking gasfield, destroying Country and fuelling the climate crisis.
We need the Australian government to commit to the following:
- Stop approving new coal and gas projects
- Commit to paying our fair share of climate finance for developing countries
- End all fossil fuel subsidies and make big polluters pay for their climate damage here in Australia and internationally
We will send a message to our elected leaders that we will not stand for this project being approved. We can stop it. By turning up and making our voices heard.
