The Birrarung Riverfest, Victoria's celebration of the iconic Yarra, is here!
We wanted to warmly invite you to a very special Riverfest River Lessons Working Bee event at Melbourne Girls' College.
When: Sat 20th of September, 9am - 12:30pm
Where: Melbourne Girls' College - 55 Yarra Boulevard, Richmond, 3121
Please RSVP at the dedicated Riverfest event page: https://events.humanitix.com/
A bit about the event:
- Join us on the banks of the Birrarung to learn about fragments of our history, present, and future that are often missed out on in the classroom. We will begin with learning about the colonial trauma that pervades our landscape, taking notice of the negative, ongoing effects it has on the health and wellbeing of Indigenous communities, Country, and wider society
- We will share the story of the Murnong, a tuberous root vegetable and staple food source for Wurundjeri people
- Practise ecological field skills, such as plant ID, botanical drawing, and learning the scientific and Indigenous species names of plants and animals
- There will also be an opportunity to weed the riverbank
- Morning tea is also provided at our Yarning circle at the end of the session!
We would also encourage you to check out the program of over 60 different Riverfest events here- you can get involved in bushcare, workshops, citizen science, and so much more.
