Corals’ Last Stand is an award-winning documentary that explores the imminent threat Woodside’s Browse Gas Project poses to one of Australia’s wild places, Scott Reef.
The impacts of Woodside’s proposed gas operations and infrastructure would be far reaching, devastating two of Australia’s most precious reefs. Drilling next to the pristine Scott Reef, and the construction of a 1,000km undersea gas pipeline, would risk direct catastrophic oil spills, and could lead to the sinking of the reef system, harming green turtle nesting grounds, and impacting endangered pygmy blue whales.

Corals' Last Stand follows the voyage of a team of prominent Australians including author Tim Winton and musician John Butler as they travel to the reef to bring worldwide attention to the impact that drilling will have on this special place. This half hour documentary asks whether Australia can really afford to exploit this gas reserve in a time of growing community concern at rising global temperatures.
But it’s not just the Scott Reef that this project would impact. The climate pollution produced by Browse gas would be an absolute disaster for the Great Barrier Reef all the way on the East coast of the country, too – killing nearly 30 million more corals on the Reef in each future mass bleaching event. And we know that with climate change, mass bleaching events are already becoming more frequent and more intense.
This screening couldn’t come at a more important time. Federal Environment Minister Murray Watt has recently opened public submissions into Woodside’s Browse Gas Project with a short deadline of July 21st.
