This September, we’re asking people to head down to their local creek or river, find a quiet place on the bank, try to spot a platypus and record what you see.
You might be surprised by the places the elusive platypus calls home. In urban rivers, suburban creeks, farm dams, and local reservoirs – a platypus is probably closer than you think!
By taking part in the platy-project month of action, you’ll help researchers understand more about this elusive animal and how we can better protect it. More can be discovered here.
With historical and contemporary records illustrating the presence of platypus in South West Sydney, we are calling on all keen citizen-scientists (and everyone who just wants to try their hand at seeing a platypus) to join us in our efforts to help researchers, and protect one of our most-loved native animals.
We will be meeting at Nepean River Reserve, accessible from Menangle Road and a four minute drive south of Menangle Park Station. From there we will access the bank of the Nepean River.
With that in mind, join us to help spot a platypus September 17th!
