[A victory for climate and nature] as Australians make their demands clear

Australians have chosen climate, clean energy, and Country, delivering a resounding 'NO’ to the Coalition and their toxic nuclear fantasy and infatuation with fossil fuels.

The message could not be more clear: if you don’t have a credible plan to tackle climate change, you are not fit to lead.

But our job is far from over and there is a lot of work to be done.

We have more resolve than ever before, to fight hard for no new coal and gas, to get the nature laws and protection we so vitally need. To stand up to the climate wreckers and push for courage and conviction from Labor in its second term.

No to nuclear

The door to nuclear is not just closed, it is welded shut.

Voters saw the Coalition’s nuclear fantasy for what it is: a toxic furphy designed only to prolong the life of coal and gas. ACF has been campaigning to keep nuclear out of Australia for a long time. When our movement rallies around a goal, we are incredibly powerful. And we’re coming for gas next.

No to new coal and gas

Labor must have the backbone to reject coal and gas and accelerate the renewables transition.

All the hard work to cut Australia’s emissions will be wiped out if the Albanese government detonates the climate bombs in the Beetaloo Basin, the Browse Basin and at North West Shelf. The government cannot buckle to the demands of the fossil fuel industry at this critical time.

Without immediate action to stop new coal and gas, we will continue to see cyclones, devastating bushfires and destructive flooding wreak havoc on our communities.

Labor cannot legitimately claim to tackle climate unless it rejects fossil fuels. Australians want a clean, renewable future.

Yes to renewables

Australia is nearly halfway to being 100% powered by renewables. We know renewables work for our wallets, and our planet. Voters chose renewables, storage and climate solutions over delay and distraction and now the Government must listen and act.

We can have a future that is good for people and planet.

Yes to nature

The fight for strong laws that actually protect nature has been tumultuous, with the Prime Minister backtracking on promises and caving to the demands of industry. Nature protection is in a worse state in 2025 than it was when the Albanese government came to office in 2022.

This is not good enough. Australia is in an extinction crisis. There can be no more delays, backtracking, or caving to business lobby groups and polluters: the re-elected Albanese government must fix Australia’s broken nature protection laws, now.

Australians love nature with 82% of Labor voters identifying strengthening national environment laws as a policy they most strongly support.

It’s time for courage, resolve and real action from the new Parliament.

Donate today to help ACF hold Labor to account and push for real action, so the nature we love is protected now and into the future.
