Winter Wander - a hike to National Park Falls

Saturday 29 July 2023
10:00am - 12:00pm
Swan View Railway Heritage Trail Hub
20 Pechey Rd, Swan View, WA 6056, Australia
Get directions

An enjoyable and informative guided hike in the Perth Hills along the Swan View Railway Heritage Trail. This will be suitable for most fitness levels and abilities, with a gradient of 0.9-2m.

Our super duper guide, Jeff Murray, is an adventurer, a history buff and knows a thing or two about our native bush. We'll start at the Swan View Railway Heritage Trail Hub and make our way to National Park Falls where we'll take a break for some refreshments, snacks and chats... and of course, the gorgeous scenery! As we walk along the trail, Jeff will give us the low-down about the flora and fauna along the way, as well as some interesting stories about the old railway's history. On our way back, we'll head on through the old Swan View Tunnel (340m) and take a moment to ponder how Nature and industry could better co-exist... food for thought and future discussions.

There are two options for this hike;

  • 5km round trip, 2 hours - to Nature Falls and back, incl. snack & chat
  • 2km round trip, 45 mins - to Swan View Tunnel (through) and back

If you'd like to read a little about the history of the railway before we wander along it, our friends at Mundaring & Hills Historical Society have an easy-to-read summary with pictures here.

What you'll need:

  • sturdy and comfy, closed footwear
  • sun protection and weather-appropriate attire
  • BYO water
  • torch (optional) for the tunnel - those with vision impairment or balance / mobility challenges may like to bring some extra light
  • any essential medication e.g., asthma medication (it's always good to be prepared)

Those who have a thermos; you may like to bring tea or coffee to share with the group.

Snacks will be provided.

Please contact to discuss any mobility or accessibility requirements and any dietary needs.

Free parking at the Swan View Railway Heritage Trail Hub - enter off Pechey Rd (cnr Morrison Rd), Swan View

Please arrive 10-15 mins early for a prompt start to our Winter Wander.

Note: this event may be cancelled if the weather is not conducive to a safe hike.
