Big Gas corporations like Woodside are making massive profits shipping over 80% of gas produced in WA overseas, whilst paying pennies in taxes compared to their profits. And what do we get in return? Higher bills, rising cost-of-living, and a worsening climate crisis driven by a toxic fossil fuel.
Right now, Woodside is proposing to drill dozens of gas wells near the pristine Scott Reef, putting the safety of the endangered marine animals that call it home at serious risk. Scott Reef is a 15-million-year-old oasis off WA’s coast that is critical habitat for the endangered Pygmy Blue Whale and Green Turtle. Woodside’s plans could push these precious species closer to extinction.
Woodside’s proposed Browse gas project would also unleash billions of tonnes of climate pollution into the atmosphere. Burning gas is a key driver of the climate crisis, making disasters like bushfires, floods, and heatwaves more frequent and more deadly. Earlier this year, ACF presented new evidence showing that the Browse project would result in the death of 29.35 million coral colonies in every mass bleaching event.
It’s time to stand up to Big Gas greed and demand action to Save Scott Reef!
Join us for a rally outside Woodside’s AGM and show Woodside, their investors, and the politicians that support them that we’ve had enough of the Big Gas rip off.
This event is co-organised by the Australian Conservation Foundation, the Conservation Council of WA, Greenpeace Australia Pacific, and Go Beyond Gas
