Nangak Tamboree (nan-nyack tam-bor-ee) means respecting, sharing and looking after the waterway in Woiwurrung language of the Wurundjeri people. There are over 500 species of indigenous plants and 355 native vertebrate species recorded in the Wildlife Sanctuary's 30 hectare site.
A stroll around the wetlands will provide the budding or experienced bird watcher with a great experience. Tune in your ears at certain times of the year and you will hear numerous frog species calling. Our lizard lounges exhibit darting reptiles, while nesting boxes, and hollows, provide great habitat for arboreal birds and mammals. As it starts to get wetter in autumn, an ever increasing diversity of fungi can be found.
We have booked to use Yellow Box Hut, located near the entrance as our base for the day. We will have exclusive access to the Sanctuary for the day. In addition to the walk we are supporting classes by Sofia Art for Kids as promotion of the ACF Wild at Art competition.
After the walk we hope you will be able to join us for snacks, a cuppa and a chat in the usual way.
Note that because of our partnership with Sofia Art for Kids this walk is on a Saturday and not our usual fourth Sunday.
A Wild at Art Walkshop event for primary school children and families will be running from 10am to 1pm. Details at wild_at_art_walkshop_nangak_tamboree_sanctuary_june_2026
